I love LaunchELF also, but for some reason it requires me to put a CD or DVD in the tray for HDL to work OK, even with Zero-X's patch.
Weird since DMS Explorer has no problem launching this HDL with the tray empty.
Also I made a weird discovery on HDL + LaunchELF 3.11 : if i power the console with "Reset" then it will lock, but if I power up the PS2 with "Eject" it work OK!
Guess the DMS3 isn't exactly bug-free yet on V9/V10s...
Later,

Alcahest

I had the exact same problem with my PAL V10 and Matrix Infinity. LaunchELF 3.11 worked flawlessy for days, then suffered the same symptoms as you described (plus PS2Menu wouldn't launch without a CD/DVD in the drive either ). I had to drop back to an earlier version of LaunchELF to solve my problems.

Didn't have any reset/eject power-up problems though.

It's not a problem, rather, a solution
Try it on your V10 + LaunchELF 3.11 + HDL patched by Zer0-X : if you power the console with reset, you need a CD/DVD in the tray otherwise black screen, but if you power from standby with "EJECT", then it will work with no CD/DVD in the tray.
I would be interested to know if this behavior is similar with Matrix Infinity (I have a V9 + DMS3 V9)
Later,

Alcahest

That problem exists for me in a USA v7 with Messiah 2 Pro 1.x chip too. in fact, i would have to turn off the chip completly to get hdl/hda to boot. However after the patch for no disc seek and spin down i no longer have to press eject anymore.

Off topic sorta....

But who develops this application (a japanese of nationality i assume)? i was wondering if there was any kind of plans to possibly incorporate unrar.irx in the future. i still use mcLoader for this very reason...the compression is nice. if that would exist in LauchELF that would be _REALY_ nice. i've only used UMR 3 times so i really dont need mcloader anymore for anything other than the compression (hda ~367KB in .rar (without patching in a .bmp atleast))

One thing i dont like about the new version is...that it says "Loading HDD modules..." at the top now...i liked it better at the bottom.

Sorry Alcahest, I never had this problem with LaunchELF 3.11 and the Infinity. It was only the patched HDLoader and PS2Menu that wouldn't work without a disk in the drive.

With LaunchELF 3.11, PS2Menu & PS2Menu-k used to freeze at cdvd.irx unless a disk was in the drive. Does HDLoader use this? An issue with 3.11 and cdvd.irx maybe?

Back with LaunchELF 3.02 now, everything working as it should, so far..

Latest launchelf can launch all elfs from hd...The only thing you got on your mc is the boot.elf (and your saves of course).

I soon discovered that although the Infinity is a lovely chip, the mc menu manager is complete pants - it installs software whenever it feels like it, you cannot easily edit the list of installed programs, it fails to launch installed programs whenever the mood takes it..

I'm not impressed with it, you can probably tell

I replaced the Infinity manager with LaunchELF. To do this you need to locate mc0:/\matrixteam\MANAGER.ELF on your memory card. This file is the Matrix MC menu manager. Copy LaunchELF.ELF to the mc0:/\matrixteam\ folder, then rename LaunchELF.ELF to MANAGER.ELF. This will replace the Matrix software with LaunchELF when you boot with triangle pressed down.

You can now use LaunchELF to load all your other programs from mc: or hdd: including PS2Menu and HDLoader.

I used ExecFTPS and CuteFTP to transfer LaunchELF to my mc:

Alternatively, from this thread:

1. Install Infinity Manager to MC
2. Burn a CD with a booting PS2MENU and put LAUNCHELF.ELF renamed to MANAGER.ELF in the root of the disk.
3. Copy the MANAGER.ELF from PS2MENU to mc0:/\matrixteam\MANAGER.ELF

Just search around this site, you'll find everything you'll need to know.

Cheers!!

GNUDI AND NIGECUBE THANKS FOR THE REPLY. I HAVE NOT HAD A PROBLEM LAUNCHING ANY OF THE ELVES THAT I HAVE ON MY M.C. [snes pgen and reality media player] i heard that the next upgrade of the infinity manager will take advantage of the h.d. but for now it sounds great to be able to launch elves from the h.d. so i think ill give it a shot. thanks again. david
