Vista Share

Hi!

I am trying to access a Vista Share but SMS freeze all time. I try with and without share password.

I am acessing the share from Win XP with no problems. And SMS can access WinXP shares.

Any idea?

Are you using the latest version of SMS??

Also have you searched the threads for Sharing Help, there's plenty of advice on here..

Hello all, hopefully this will solve your problems, I found it in a thread from 2007
and it worked a treat for me in vista

I wanted to post a probable solution for many folks who are experiencing login error (5) on the samba mount:
For login error (5) and event ids in security log (if logging) 529 and 680.
Information from:

To fix the problem you must locally store the correct password hash:
control panel/administrative tools/local security policy
Local Policies/Security Options
Network security: Do not store LAN Manager hash value on next password change = Disabled

Login to your XP system as the user you have for samba sharing and change password (this stores the lan manager password hash on your Windows XP system where it was not being stored previously). Then update SMS.smb with this new password and run SMS.

@EEUG, dlanor, and EP - hope this works because I love your updates and hate to see time spent in troubleshooting!

Forgot to mention the key is the network security setting, this is now enabled in vista but DISABLED in xp, changing this allowed me to get to shares (whoopee!)


EDIT: The above allows you to view the shares but I now get another problem where it just sits there detecting file type and doesn't go any further. Interesting thing is you can see the file has been opened by the ps2 when you check the open shared files on the pc but nothing else seems to happen. So close yet so far
