Is it possible to stream media from xbox to SMS?

XBMC supports both SMB and FTP protocols simultaneously. Is there a way to stream media from the xbox to SMS yet?

I imagine it's possible, but I would suggest taking a look at the XBMC Wiki on the process of setting up the shares on your box. Also, I'm not sure on what builds of XBMC will do it either if it's even possible.

In order for that to work the samba implementation of XBMC needs to be bidirectional, in the sense that shares on the XBMC drive are also visible from other machines on the network, like a PC. And the protocol type implemented must be identical to that used by SMS (not the password-free access protocol which SMS lacks).

Some samba implementations, like the one in SMS, are only unidirectional. In the case of SMS this means that it can access shares from a network, but can not contribute any shares from the PS2 for access by other machines on the network. And if the XBMC implementation also has the same limitation, then it is impossible for either console to access anything on the other through samba.

Note that I'm not saying that XBMC does have the same limitation, as I don't know that.
This will have to be tested by someone having an XBox, which I don't.

Best regards: dlanor

I know it can be done some how since when my sister brought her vista powered laptop over, it recognized XBMC via UPnP (which was enabled in XBMC) over the network and could play media from that.

I'm rather puzzled as to why you would have SMS play shares from the xbox? I'm by no means trying to insult EEUG, but XBMC is more matured than SMS since it has an enitre team working on it where SMS only has it's creator. Just a 'gotta try it and see if it does work for the heck of it' kind of deals?

My opinion is that it won't work since XBMC may lack the settings to allow shares from the xbox rather than the xbox seeing shares from external devices.

Thats true ninja, with PS2Net in uLE, I have the ps2 set up as a source in XBMC. And it can stream perfectly. It would be awesome if EEUG could incorporate FileZilla the way XBMC has.
