Question

SMS User Manual!!

http://ps2-scene.org/sms/SMSMANUAL/sms_usermanual.html

User manual for the SMS media player. It covers installation, use in various modes, and includes screenshots of most operations.

[09/Jul/2007]
Russian version of usermanual added. Many thanks to VxWorks for all his fantastic work in bringing us this much-wanted and long awaited translation.

[18/Apr/2007]
Updated link after my ISP shutdown the original site due using too much bandwidth!

[23/Mar/2006]
New HDD section contributed by Furatudo - an excellent guide for how to play media files from a PS2 internal hard drive.

[01/Mar/2006]
Manual updated to reflect changes in version 1.6. Skinning section updated. Portuguese translations added for new sections. Work in progress on new HDD section. Also required are tutorials for using SMS with modchips. Anyone willing to contribute, reply to this thread. If you feel that the user manual is confusing or incomplete or inadequate in any area, please let me know by posting a message here.

[23/Feb/2006]
New sections added! Instructions on how to skin SMS, plus how to use uLaunchELF. Work is in progress for updating the manual to include all the new features of version 1.6.

[27/jan/2006]
Portuguese translation added.

[14/jan/2006]
Manual updated again, now includes better subtitle instructions, more detail + examples on network configuration, plus other minor updates, corrections and colour scheme changes.

[08/jan/2006]
Manual is now updated to a HTML version, and maintained in DocBook format.

[28/dec/2005]
Manual has now been updated for SMS v1.5

[6/dec/2005]
First version written.

Dave T.

It looks great to me. I think I cancel the sms website, cause there isn't need for it anymore. Everything, but I mean like actually EVERYTHING is explained in this forum, and now in you manual. Now I can focus more on my school without having to think about the website. Looking good Dave_t!

@all: small correction - http://ps2dev.org/ps2/Projects DOES NOT CONTAIN LATEST VERSION (at least I didn't put it there). It's rather messy at ps2dev and versions are changed quite frequently, so, I've abandoned the idea of polluting ps2dev's site. Otherwise it's quite cool manual. Thank you ...

...a very small note: in player menu "Language" means "audio language" (for .avi files containing multiple audio streams), not "subtitle language". Thank you for the update
P.S. Btw., does the PAD/rom1 test program work on your site?

Another intereting thing would be to include MTK font creator screenshots, to give a better idea who those who wants to create their own fonts

Hmm, yes, i was wondering what is the next most important thing to add. So far, there are these outstanding items:
  • How to create subtitle files
  • How to create skins
  • How to create fonts
I was kind of hoping that someone might submit some fonts for download in various character sets - that way each user wouldn't have to go to the trouble of creating their own. There must be a legal way of doing this.

The popularity of the manual is growing vastly. It now gets over 100 hits per day, and many of these are from countries such as spain and korea. Perhaps we'll have to translate it into different languages - any volunteers?

Dave
